RAMCHECK® Planned 400MHz DDR Support

The current RAMCHECK DDR 184-Pin Adapter tests PC3200/PC2700/2100/1600 (also known as DDR400/333/266/200) modules, including Registered and Unbuffered DIMMs, complying with current JEDEC standards. While PC3200 (DDR400) modules can be tested and identified as PC3200/DDR400 on this adapter, the tests are run at somewhat lower frequencies since the adapter's current technology achieves a maximum frequency of about 350/360MHz.

400MHz modules are fully compatible with lower speed motherboards, and many of them are currently used on 333MHz motherboards. Therefore, our reduced speed testing for 400MHz modules still provides comprehensive test coverage that should be sufficient for most users. Of course, we plan to support 400MHz and higher frequencies modules at actual speed in the near future.

In view of future DDR memory frequencies, we are developing a new technology that will support testing at 400MHz and higher. To insure compatibility with our existing adapters, the new design uses the same form factor as the current adapter, and an upgrade can be done simply by replacing the electronic board. Such replacement can be done by the customer in the field, using merely a screwdriver and a pair of pliers.

Since the new PC400+ adapter will be about 25% more expensive than the existing RAMCHECK DDR adapter, we plan to set the upgrade price close to the difference in price of the two adapters. Therefore, customers can feel free to purchase the existing DDR adapter now in order to fulfill their current DDR testing needs and upgrade later without losing money.

This is part of our reputation as a company that provides cost-effective upgrades for our customers whenever possible, rather than forcing them to purchase costly new equipment with each incremental change.
